You’re probably bombarded daily with messages telling you to get healthier. We’re always hearing how we need focus on physical fitness. We are told in magazines, in television ads, in books, on billboards, there are messages: get in shape! Eat better food! Local diners of course are banking on new and improved "light side menus" these advertisings generally support. It’s difficult for many consumers to separate the fact from the fiction about what really is and isn’t part of a healthy lifestyle. If you want to become the healthy and fit person you’re being told you should be, you need to keep reading.
Everyone knows that they should exercise. Many people mistake this instruction to mean that they need to do hard workouts every day. This is not true. The truth is that your muscles won’t ever get stronger if you don’t give them time to heal. If you want stronger muscles, you need to allow them to rest after you’ve worked them out thoroughly.
The best workout routine would involve a hard day following by an easier day. For example, you can do a thorough workout on Monday, on Wednesday and then again on Friday. Then you can go for an easier workout like a walk or a series of push ups on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays.
Getting plenty of sleep is also important. We are pushing our bodies to accomplish more and more in the course of a day. This means that we are staying up later and later. Then we get up even earlier in the morning to finish up. This leaves little time for our bodies to get the rest we so desperately need. Your sleep time is important time for the body to fix the damage that was done the previous day. Sleep is how we "recharge" our "batteries." The average adult must have a minimum of eight hours of sleep a night in order to be in optimal health. See what a difference it can make for you by trying to get eight hours of sleep a night for just one week.
Pencil in time to relax. Sleep is not necessary or required for this step. This is important time you need in order to de-stress. For some people it’s time spent watching television. A nice relaxing walk is another great idea. You could take a long hot soak in the tub or read a chapter in a book. If you aren’t spending some time each day getting rid of stress it can lead to huge problems for your health. There are all sorts of ways to stay healthy and fit. There is more to leading a healthy life than just eating natural foods and going for a run every now and then. Staying healthy means attending to your whole body and not just to one or two parts of it. The good news is that, once you get into the habit of making good decisions, staying healthy is pretty easy to do!
